Our beds are zoned for your comfort with two different firmness grades of springs we use in different parts of the bed. Somnium is the only mattress that truly reconciles human anatomy and human ergonomics: Softer comfort for the shoulders and hips and firmer support for the lumbar spine.
INCREASED AIR CIRCULATION
It’s all about the air. Every part of our mattress has been designed to create a well-vented, temperate sleep environment to keep you comfortable and dry: From our springs that create the airy center to the open-pore foam and the cover with breathable mesh, everything it is as air-permeable as possible.
NO MOTION TRANSFER
On a Somnium bed you will never feel disruptive motion transfer thanks to our innovative springs. Connected at the center – rather than the top and bottom in the manner traditional coils have done for centuries – each of our springs moves individually allowing you to move without disturbing your partner.
CHEMICAL-FREE & HYPOALLERGENIC
We insist on Ökotex compliant fibers in our covers to assure they are free of formaldehyde, heavy metals, dyes or other harmful chemicals and HR foams that are inherently flame resistant. Plus, washable covers and good air circulation create a sleep environment that is inhospitable to allergy inducing dust mites.
LIGHTWEIGHT
Our high-tech materials make the Somnium dramatically lighter so you can tuck sheets or flip your mattress with ease. Eliminating the heavy metal coils and unnecessary bulk of a traditional mattress allowed us to build a sleek 8-inch profile mattress with a fraction of its predecessor’s weight.
RECYCLABLE
Every component of our mattress can be recycled or repurposed once you are ready to part with it. While millions of used mattresses are a huge problem for landfills because they are hard to break down and sheer impossible to dismantle. Somnium begs to differ with a smart design and responsible material choices.
GREEN BY DESIGN
Considering the entire life cycle of a product is the new shade of green. That’s why we produce quality that lasts, source locally and work diligently to minimize our impact on the environment.
It starts with flame-resistant materials like rayon and highly-resilient foam instead of flammable cotton and traditional bedding foam to impart fire-safety on a molecular level that never wears off.
And it ends with covers that quickly zip off so the fibers can be recycled and the foam can easily be stripped away to be turned into yoga mats, insulation or carpet underlay many years later. Even our high-tech springs enjoy a useful afterlife: Once ground up, their high-quality elastomer can safely be reborn as a kid’s toy. Saving the world in your sleep is possible after all!
ALWAYS IN THE ZONE
Size matters? Not really! Whether you are a 6’2” tall amazon or her 5’6” sidekick, Somnium’s comfort zone will always hit both of you in just the right places.
While the tallest and shortest among us may not see eye to eye standing, most of us actually do, once we are seated at the dinner table. The reason: The distance between the hip and the shoulder region is roughly the same, regardless of our overall body length, since much of our height is ultimately determined by our legs.
Knowing that allowed us place our comfort zones so they align perfectly for every body.
Even better: Since our mattresses are dual-sided and should be flipped quarterly, they line-up perfectly on both sides and in either direction.
MORE BENEFITS
DUAL-SIDED = TWICE THE BED
You guessed it: We are no fans of single-sided mattresses. Since you cannot flip them, they effectively offer half the usable product under the false guise of no-flip convenience. That’s why Somniums are always double-sided: an extra sleeping surface for longevity and more even wear. Please flip accordingly!
DON’T SWEAT IT
We lose about a pint of moisture every night – or 365 gallons in a single year: 2/3 of it evaporates with our breathe, the rest stays behind when we get up in the morning. But don’t worry: Just allow your bed to air out before making it and wash your zip-off cover quarterly to keep your sleep environment pristine for years to come.
WASHABLE COVERS
Dirt happens. Whether its traces from last weekend’s breakfast in bed, Fido’s muddy paw prints after jumping in for a cuddle or simply the desire for a deep spring cleaning, our washable covers have you, well, covered. Just zip off the top half, machine wash, line dry and replace it. Then flip the mattress, rinse and repeat.
